The sad truth revealed by AGI president at the Ghana EU business forum
President of the Association of Ghana industries Dr Yaw Adu Gyamfi has enumerated challenges that seems to impede the smooth running of businesses in Ghana at the ongoing Ghana EU business forum which seeks to bring together Ghanaian and European entrepreneurs together to seek a common investment interest .
He bemoaned that, how are Ghanaian industries expected to compete with countries who have cheaper electricity rate like China and India as compared to Ghanaian industries that spend huge sums of money on electricity to keep their industries running this alone he indicated does not create a leveled competitive playing field for the Ghanaian industries.
Another issue he made mention of is the gap between educational institutions and industries which is one of the huge causes unemployment where most courses the prospective labour force read at the various tertiary institutions are tailored to the needs modern day Ghanaian industries hence the high rate of graduate unemployment being experienced in Ghana. He further gave an example of how the Turkish industries have established a tertiary institution tailored to produced the skillset to feed their industries .
He further bemoaned how the acquisition of technical skills has been relegated to the background in Ghana and are left for people who are perceived not to have done well in exams, meanwhile their technical know how is needed to feed the industries in Ghana.
Dr Yaw Adu Gyamfi also stressed on the need for their European counterparts to move from just trading with them to actually invest in their industries in order to benefit both parties.
