PIAC debunks reports over oil cash being diverted for salaries
The Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) has
debunked media reports that it has said anywhere that some petroleum revenues
have been diverted into paying salaries.
The committee set up by the Petroleum Revenue
Management Act (PRMA) 2011 (Act 815) to monitor and evaluate compliance with
the Act by the government and relevant institutions in the management and use
of petroleum revenues, said it had not done any such findings, and, therefore,
the publication should be disregarded.
A statement signed by PIAC Chair, Dr Steve
Manteaw, said: “We wish to state for the records that on no occasion has the
PIAC made any finding related to the diversion of oil revenue to pay salaries”.
It added: “The Committee, therefore, wishes to
dissociate itself from the said publication in which Mr Kwame Jantuah was
erroneously cited as the Vice Chairman of the PIAC. Again, for the records, Mr
Jantuah is no longer a member of the Committee.”
