In Volta Region: Hohoe residents block bad roads with burning tyres
Some residents of Hohoe in the Volta Region on Friday, 16 November 2018 blocked some local roads with burning tyres as a protest to the poor state of those roads.
The disgruntled youth say their action is aimed at forcing the government to construct good roads and asphalt the untarred ones.
A local reporter told Accra based Class FM the road at Alabato Junction was blocked totally.
Although the police attempted thwarting the demonstrating, the residents defied the law officers and went ahead with the protest.
On the same day, scores of residents of Tarkwa-Nsuta in the Tarkwa Nsueam municipality of the Western Region also blocked the Tarkwa-Takoradi road to protest against the killing of pedestrians by speeding cars on that stretch.
The demonstrations follow a similar one at Adentan in the Greater Accra Region, over the numerous car knockdowns of pedestrians on the Madina-Adentan Highway due to lack of footbridges.
The killing of an 18-year-old first-year student of West Africa Senior High School (WASS) on Thursday, 8 November 2018, sparked spontaneous riots on the highway which resulted in a gridlock, compelling police and fire officers to intervene.
