Ghana’s new regions: Constitutional Instrument presentation starts today
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is
scheduled , to present a Constitutional Instrument (CI) on the newly created
North East and Savannah regions to give them legal backing today 12th
February 2019.
The four other regions namely, Western North,
Ahafo, Bono East and Oti will also get their CI’s in the course of the week.
This comes despite agitations from some of the
traditional authorities in the new regions.
From the proposed Bono East region, the Chiefs
and people of Nkoranza are kicking against the selection of Techiman as the
capital with a pressure group in Walewale in the North East region making a
strong case for Walewale as capital.
Despite these pressures, the Deputy Regional
Reorganisation Minister, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah told said on Accra based
Class FM that, the event will take place as scheduled.
He stated that, the Ministry has no influence in
the selection of the capitals.
