Ghana’s independence celebration to be rotated among all regions- Akufo-Addo
As Ghana celebrates its 62nd Independence anniversary president Akufo-Addo revealed that the celebration could be rotated among all the 16 regions.
Giving an address at the 62 independence day parade, he said Tamale was chosen to host Ghana’s 62nd Independence Day parade due to the current peace in Dagbon.
After 17 years of conflict over who becomes the overlord of Dagbon, the Committee of Eminent chiefs drew a roadmap which was duly followed for the crowning of a new Yaa Naa.
The President says this made Tamale get the nod this year as a sign of the nation’s appreciation for the peace that currently exists in Dagbon.
“On March 6, when we celebrate the
independence of Ghana, we celebrate the strength that comes with speaking with
a united voice”
“Tamale was chosen as the venue, not only to underline the unity of our
nation but also to express the nation’s appreciation of the peace in Dagbon
since the enskinment of Yaa Naa”
“The hardworking Chieftaincy Minister will intensify the efforts in finding solutions to our longstanding chieftaincy disputes”
“I congratulate the people of Tamale for being a great host and this could set a trend for the rotation of this ceremony” he added.
This is the first time since 1957 that the Independence Day celebration has been held outside Accra.
