Ghana – Tijanniya Muslim Council pay a courtesy call on the Canadian High Commission

The Tijaniyya Muslim Council has paid a curtsey call on the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana and this call was led by its Spiritual leader, Sheikh Abul-Faidi Abdulai Maikano on Tuesday 18th July, 2017.

The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Heather Cameron welcomed the delegation and thanked them for the visit.

This courtesy call, according to Shaeikh Abul-Faidi Abdulai Maikano, is part of the Council’s efforts to strengthen the already existing healthy cordial relationship between the Tijanniya Muslim Council and the High Commission.

He said the objective of the visit was to explore ways of strengthening relations between Ghana and Canada.

Sheikh Maikano mentioned some of the activities of the Council in Ghana and the contribution of his father, Sheikh Abdulai Ahmed Maikano Jollo in the spread of Islam, Tariqat Tijaniyya and interfaith in Ghana and beyond.

He tasks the ambassador to send his message to the Canadian government in order that it would help in extending its developmental projects to the deprived communities of Ghana especially his home town of Prang in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Sheikh Abul-Faidi Abdulai Maikano further bemoaned the lack of basic necessities of life such as health facilities and educational infrastructure.

He said farming has been the mainstay of the people in most communities and for that matter; they rely heavily on it as a source of livelihood. He therefore called on the High Commissioner to help support the people in that regard.

Sheikh also cited himself as being a farmer and encourages a full support of the Commission to help boost farming with modern and state of the art equipment to make farming an attractive business venture.

Welcoming the Tijaniyya Muslims, Ms Heather Cameron noted that Canada and Ghana are plural countries which believe in the same values and model of faith that has enhanced relations between both countries with mutual benefit.

The High Commissioner praised the Tijaniyya Council for the good work it is doing most especially and congratulated them for a successful end of Ramadan.

She assured them of her outfit’s collaboration with the Tijaniyya Muslim Council to do more outreach interfaith programmes to help promote peace and unity across the continent.

The High Commissioner noted that the Government of Canada is supporting agriculture and business development in Ghana. She confirmed that her country is currently investing in Ghana’s food security, including via a contribution of Canadian $125 million to help revitalize Ghana’s agricultural extension services nation-wide. This contribution, and others,  support the objectives of G‎hana’s “Planting For Food and Jobs” initiative.

Sheikh Khalifa Maikano thanked the ambassador for the warm reception accorded her and the entourage and prayed that the collaboration between the two bodies will be very mutual and fruitful.

He asks the ambassador to extend the Council’s good will message to the Canadian government and also remember not to relent on their efforts to assist them develop their communities.
