Ghana police indicate readiness for Ayawaso West Wuogon Elections
The Ghana Police Service have indicated that,they are prepared to ensure a chaos free and fair elections at the by-elections of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency scheduled for January 31 2019.
A statement from the Greater Accra Regional Command says officers will be positioned at all six electoral areas while others will patrol the areas to ensure a violent-free exercise.
The statement also warned on any acts of lawlessness that will distort the peaceful conduct of the election.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Command, ASP Afia Tenge, ”There will be police patrol at the areas and also motorbike patrols. The regional commander has stated that the police is not going to tolerate any act of lawlessness on the part of anyone, especially the use of motorbikes some people will be subjected to stop and be searched”.
”When you get to an area where you are told to stop by a police officer, you don’t have to go ahead, you just have to stop and listen to what the police will say. We expect that this exercise will be done in the best of peaceful manner that it should be.”
In an interview with citinews monitored by PrimeNewsGhana, some residents also expressed their optimism of Lydia Alahssan winning the election:
A resident said, ”With regards to what the husband has done encourages everybody in the area to vote for the woman. The way the woman helped the late husband I think the people will vote for her.
”With infrastructural development, if you look at Ayawaso West Wuogon, it is a very wide and broadened constituency and late Agyarko has done so much for the constituency and I think we should vote for the wife so that she can continue what he was doing.”
”We have seen what the husband has done, amongst them are the Santana Market, he also built a school building for the constituency. Lydia is a woman who has the courage and helped the late husband in everything, God willing on Thursday we will come and support her and we know she will win the seat for Ayawaso,”another added.
