Ghana – Alarming! Sallah party held at filling station?
Hundreds of youth gathered at a filling station in Asawase a surburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to make merry as part of the Eid ul Fitr celebration which also marked the end of the Ramadan fasting.

Most of the attendance are children below the ages of 7
It has been a wrong choice of venue considering the dangers associated with a filling station as one mistake could cause a considerable damage to lives and properties.
It is unfortunate these festive activities took place in the full glare of the Police and city authorities without them taking any action.

Some children were seen with their parents
Just last year, 9 people lost their lives in a stampede at the Asawase community centre and also, a young boy was also shot and killed at a sallah party this year for refusing to hand over his phone to the attackers.
From a hindsight, one would have thought that proactive measures would be taken to prevent any possible calamity on such occasions.
Going forward, it is our belief that the appropriate authorities would take a keen approach to mitigating such occurrences to save lives and properties.
