Earth tremors leaves Weija dam at risk
The Weija Dam is likely to suffer from the frequent earth tremors in that part of the country, Professor Emmanuel Amamoo Okyere, a former Executive Director of the Centre for Geographical Information Science at University of Ghana, has said.
Residents of those areas in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, were left in fear on Sunday, 9 December 2018 after a series of earth tremors rumble through the area.
The tremors, which occurred around 7:50 a.m., shook buildings and created some fear and panic among the residents.
Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM hosted by Kwabena Prah Junior (The Don) on Monday, 10 December, Prof Amamoo Okyere said: “The residents, including Asamoah Gyan living around that area, must consider relocating following the tremors.”
He further stated that: “The Weija Dam could be adversely affected following the frequent earth tremors.”
The Weija Dam is a dam on the Densu River which supports the main water treatment plant for Accra in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana
