DCE’s AID FINED FOR DEFAMATION
The Aid to the District Chief Executive of the Akatsi North District, Mr. Mensah Dokli, has been convicted and fined by the Ave-Dakpa Magistrate Court to the tune of Ghc 2,400.00 for a defamation suit brought against him by the Volta Regional Women’s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Mrs. Akusika Nkansah.
Presenting the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Martin Quashie, said, on January 16th this year, the NPP held an election to elect constituency polling station executives. An exercise the complainant, Mrs. Nkansah was designated to preside over in the Akatsi North Constituency.
According to him, whiles the complainant was at post in the constituency, her attention was drawn to a social media post claiming she was not in the constituency for the said exercise she was designated for.
A move that prompted her secretary to take pictures of her and other executives of the party including the constituency youth organiser of the party in a hotel having discussionon the roadmap of the exercise.
Mensah upon seeing the pictures copied them and posted them onto WhatsApp platforms and facebook, accompanied by an article that suggested that she was involved in a secret affair with the constituency youth organiser.
Mrs. Nkansah averred that Mensah’s conduct was injurious to her reputation and integrity as a responsible mother and her position as a respected political figure in the NPP.
The complainant reported the Infinity to the police. In a court hearing presided over by her Worship Grace Osei, the accused person pleaded guilty and offered and an apology to the Women’s Organizer. He was therefore fined to total sum of Ghc 2,400.00.
