Ayawaso west wuogon by-elections: EC sued
A Ghanaian citizen Bismarck Aborbi-Ayitey, has sued the Electoral Commission over the forthcoming Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
He filed the suit at the Supreme Court challenging the EC’s decision to hold the by-poll on 31 January 2018.
According to the plaintiff, who is being represented by Dr Dominic Ayine, a former Deputy Attorney General, per Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution, a by-election is supposed to be held within 60 days after a seat is declared vacant.
According to him, the by-election should have been held before or on 26 January 2019 and not on 31 January.
Following the demise of Mr Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Parliament formally declared the seat vacant and informed the EC on 26 November 2018.
