Technical education :Ghana eager to toe the German line – Napo
Ghana’s Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, on
Tuesday, 30 July 2019 received a delegation from Germany led by that country’s
Minister of Education, Mrs Anja Karliczek, as part of their three-day working
visit to Ghana.
The visit was to further strengthen the
relationship between Ghana and Germany as well as discuss how the future looks
for both countries with regard to cooperation in education.
Dr Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, said he was
glad to learn that Germany continues to hold Ghana in high esteem and was
impressed with Ghana’s reformation agenda in education, especially when it came
to the revamping of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Dr Prempeh, however, lamented that although
Ghana is one of the leading producers of raw materials such gold and cocoa, the
country still lacked the skills to transform these resources into finished
goods to rake in higher profits.
Therefore, he said, Ghana was eager to learn
from Germany, the leaders in TVET, in order to turn her fortunes around.
“Ghana is a long way from the finish line but we
are willing to set the right foundation now for continuous development in
future,” Dr Prempeh said.
For his part, Mrs Karliczek reiterated Germany’s
commitment to supporting Ghana in the area of skills development and technical
training toward the Ghana Beyond Aid agenda.
