Ramadan 2017 – Four things to help cut down food waste

Food Waste in Ramadan – Episode 9

I hope this episode finds you in good health and eaaman.

In our in episode 10 which is supposed to be our final on food waste in Ramadan, I will look at some quick reminders.

But today’s episode is dubbed “save a little and eat only what we need.”

I will carefully look at cutting waste in our eating habits.

Cutting down waste in our grocery shopping and eating habits could entirely reduce food waste.

Anyone of us could be a change agent in our communities.

Change agent in reducing food waste. Change agent in making sure the poor is being fed.

That’s all we are striving to achieve and that could take just a minute to do.

Below are four things you can do to help cut down food waste

1. Measure the food portions you consume to know the exact amount of food you need to buy and cook.

2. Health experts say,  it is  healthier to buy fresh food every day, instead of buying food for the entire month.

3. Participate in leftover food campaigns to collect untouched and safe leftover food each day and distribute it to poor families.

4. You can wear a shirt bearing slogan like “Do not waste food, save the environment” to campaign against food waste.

Don’t forget that,  many poor people go to bed without food and we waste it everyday.

Let’s be more thoughtful of those people and the environment.

Let’s encourage others to do the same.

Let’s keep the reminder coming everyday.

Remember, DO NOT THROW AWAY FOOD!!! Write this on a piece of paper and place it on top of door or any place you can always spot during iftar.
