GhC 420,000 required from NDC flagbearer aspirants to contest race

Persons who want to become the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and lead the party into the 2020 general elections are supposed to pay a total of 420,000 cedis to qualify to contest the race.
According to a myjoynline report, each of the 11 aspirants including former President John Mahama who have declared to contest the flagbearership, will have to pay 20,000 for nomination forms and additional 400,000 cedis as filing fee.
“Female candidates will pay 50% less of the filing fee while there will be an additional reduction for aspirants with physical disabilities,” the report claimed.
The decision was said to have been taken by the party’s National Executive Committee meeting Wednesday at which January 19, 2019 was set as the date to elect the presidential candidate for the party.
The party has scheduled a meeting on Thursday, November 29 to give more details on the processes.
Election of the flagbearer will conclude the party’s processes for the next election.
Eleven persons have declared to contest the race and have since been crisscrossing the country trying to woo the party’s over 9,000 delegates to give them the nod to lead the party to victory in the 2020 elections.
They are former President John Mahama; Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin; a former Trade Minister, Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah; a former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority, Mr Sylvester Adinam Mensah and a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor Joshua Alabi.
The rest are a banker and oil and gas consultant, Mr Nurideen Iddrisu; the MP for Cape Coast South, Mr George Kwaku Ricketts Hagan; a member of the NDC’s communication team, Mr Stephen Atubiga; a lawyer,¬¬¬ Mr Elikplim Agbemava and Mr David Doste Kwame Kuwadah, and Goosie Tanoh.
On November 17 the party’s delegates gathered in Accra to elect national executives.
