Ghana: – One dead, two arrested after attacking and robbing some Chines at gun point
Police in Kumasi have arrested two suspected armed robbers who on Sunday 23 April storm at a residence of some Chinese Expatriates in Obuasi robbed them at gun point.
The suspect Philip Kwadwo Danso, 28, Kwadwo Asamoah Daniel, 30 and other accomplice Kwaku Asare who was later arrested at his hide out at sofoline a suburb of Kumasi but was short dead in an attempt to escape from the police.
The suspected robbers made away with items include Ash Hyundai Accord Saloon private car with registration number AC 1534-16, ten mobile phones, two laptops, a Pump Action Gun and an amount of three thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 3,000.00) belonging to the Chinese expatriates.
In a media briefing, “the Ashanti regional police commander DCOP Ken Yeboah said, “on sunday a complain was made at the Obuasi Divitional Police Command from some Chinese that they had been attacked and robbed by five young men in a military uniform wieding a Pump Action Gun and two locally made pistols.
And on Monday 24 April, the regional Anti armed robbery unit acting upon intelligence that some two men were in possession of the stolen ash Hyundai Accord Saloon car at Krofrom Kumasi.
He said a team was dispatched to the area and arrested Philip Kwadwo Danso and Kwadwo Asamoah Daniel.
The two suspect during interrogation mention Kwahu Asare age 30, as an accomplice and was arrested at his hide out at sofline. The suspect admitted having attacked some Chinese expatriates at Obuasi Council quaters and robbed them. They also mentioned other suspects Acheampong alias IK, Kwasi alias Salasi and Yaw as their accomplices.
They later lead the police team to Philips house, where two pump action guns were retrieve in a ceiling. They also lead the police to the push where they kept the original number plate of the said stolen car.
Asare in the course of the operations tried to excape from the police but was shot and died instantly. The body has since been deposited to the komfo Anokye Teaching hospital. While the other two are in the custody assisting investigations DCPO Ken Yeboah added”.
The suspects according to the police were on police wanted list for series of robbery attacks at chines mining sites.
The police is therefore appealing to the public to assist it with any information to get other suspects mentioned in the robbery.
