Passion and trait to help People is key for every Police officer – ACP David Eklu

The Ghana Police Service has served notice that, it will not recruit people who have no passion for professionalism in law enforcement.

“If you don’t have passion, don’t join the Ghana Police Service,” Director-General of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu, said on Accra based Class FM According to him, the passion to help people is a trait every policeman should have.

For him, people should not try to enter the law enforcement service because “you want to have something to do”.

ACP Eklu indicated that , the police and society have rules and regulations to live by, and, so, anybody who wants to join the service must be passionate about being law-abiding, adding that some miscreants who joined the police have ended up in jail.

He, therefore, bemoaned the misconduct of some officers and urged the public not to use the sins of a few bad nuts to judge the entire institution.

He further called for stringent measures to be implemented during the recruitment process so as to ensure that people of excellence are selected for policing.

“These are the things that we need to bring back so that when someone even thinks he can bring his person to the police service, the person must be taken through the procedure to ensure that the person is qualified for the public benefit and public good,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) has suggested the establishment of an independent police complaint centre where police misconduct can be reported and investigated.

ACP Eklu believes the calls are in order and such a centre will help efficiency and discipline by police personnel.
