In Ashanti Region: Aggrieved residents to protest against nursing school
Some aggrieved residents at Krofrom and Tafo Nhyieaso in the Manhyia North and Old Tafo Municipal assembly of the Ashanti region have threatened to protest against Nana Afia Kobi Ampem Nursing Training College (NTC) over insanitary conditions.
The residents bemoaned that authorities of the college discharge human excreta to open drains which has a dire implication on their health and social well-being.
A resident of Tafo Nhyieso, complained that, several attempts made at the municipal sanitation department to curb the trend has not yielded any positive results.
The residents further indicated that, the Proprietor of the college, Mr. Owusu King had failed to address the insanitary issues of the NTC particularly the way it disposes human excreta into open gutters.
He therefore appealed to government including the MCE and the Member of Parliament for the area to intervene in the situation within a week, or the residents would demonstrate to drum home their concerns.
On Monday, 22 October 2018, a taskforce and community police stormed the college to enforce a summoned by Tafo Municipal Assembly (TMA). The trainees resisted the police which resulted in a melee which got one student injured and was subsequently admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
