WHO Calls on Africa to Protect HIV Gains Amid Funding Cuts
WHO Urges African Nations to Preserve HIV Progress Amid Declining Funding
The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged African governments to reinforce their healthcare systems to safeguard the significant progress made in combating HIV, as shifts in global funding threaten to stall advancements.
Marking the 2025 World AIDS Day, WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Mohamed Janabi, highlighted that decreasing international HIV funding is straining programs heavily dependent on external aid, making it crucial to protect these achievements and save lives.
Emphasizing breakthroughs in HIV prevention and treatment, Dr. Janabi called on African leaders to broaden access to innovative tools and urged a transition toward a more sustainable, locally-led response through increased domestic investment and creative financing solutions.
