Uber to consider bitcoin as a method of payment

Uber have now join growing list of Companies contemplating accepting Bitcoin as a method of payment, the giant ride share have indicated that the company is open to the idea of accepting bitcoin as a method payment just as it did with local currencies.

In an interview with the company’s Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi he noted that “just as we accept all kinds of local currency we are going to look into cryptocurrency in terms of currency to transact”. adding that “if there is benefit there, if there is need there, we will do it, we are not just going to do it as part of promotion, he concluded.

This remarks comes barely days after Twitter Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal has disclosed in an interview that the company is considering addition of Bitcoin to its balance sheet.

Recently Bitcoin made headlines after hitting an all time high this year at $44,795.20 this sharp rise in value of the Cryptocurrency is mostly is attributed to Tesla’s announcement that the company will start accepting Bitcoin as method of payment and it has also bought 1.5 billion dollars worth of alternative Cryptocurrency Dogecoin.

Meanwhile Twitter bow to make Bitcoin strong in Asia and Africa.

In a bid to make Bitcoin the Internet’s currency Twitter Co-Founder and CEO Jack Dorsey disclosed in a tweet that himself in collaboration with the Hip-Hop Rapper Jay-Z have launched new endowment called Btrust which they invested 500 Bitcoin(23million USD) to fund Bitcoin development in India and Africa.

Meanwhile in Africa Bitcoin is facing another crackdown from Authorities after Nigeria’s Central Bank has banned the use of Bitcoin and all other Cryptocurrency as a mean of transaction and subsequently confiscated all existing account

In an announcement made by the Central Bank it stated: “Further to earlier regulatory directives on the subject, the bank hereby wishes to remind regulated institutions that dealing in cryptocurrencies or facilitating payments for cryptocurrency exchanges is prohibited, ”.

The Bank of Ghana has in the past had notify the general public that the activities in digital currency are currently not licensed under country’s lawful payment system.

Cryptocurrency activities are neither Legal nor illegal in Ghana  yet it is unregulated by the financial system, but the government is hopeful it will be considered by the parliament in it’s revision of Payment System Act, which has not materialised till date.
