Compilation of new register takes off in Ghana


The first day of the registration exercise being conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the 2020 elections has been generally peaceful in the Kumasi Metropolis. Hundreds of voters were seen in queues waiting for their turn to register at centers on Tuesday morning.

Registration officials had set up the centers with all the necessary safety
protocols put in place while ensuring compliance of social distancing as part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at the centers.


The process at the various centers were smooth as most of the people who appeared on the first day were those having either a passport or the Ghana card. At the Ahwiaa M/A Primary School Center, 10 people had been registered as at 0800 hours without any difficulty to the satisfaction of all party agents present.

Mr. Kenneth Galley, the Registration Officer (RO) at the center, said there had not been any challenge and expressed satisfaction with the conduct and cooperation of the registrants to all the protocols.

Reports say, EC officials struggle to control crowd at Ketu South. A strong hold for the opposition party NDC. Ketu South has become topical in the build of the registration exercise after reports military deployment to the area.
