34 Palestinian detainees released from prisons showing signs of torture

On Thursday, Israel released 34 detainees from the northern Gaza Strip, many of whom exhibited visible signs of torture, along with extreme weakness and fatigue.

Upon crossing through the Kerem Shalom border, the detainees were taken to the European Gaza Hospital in Khan Younis, situated in the southern Gaza Strip, according to Anadolu Agency (AA).

Medical teams were reported to have promptly initiated necessary examinations and provided immediate medical care upon their arrival.

Witnesses noted that the detainees appeared profoundly exhausted and frail, with a number displaying evidence of having been tortured.

It was further reported that these individuals were apprehended by the Israeli military from several locations within northern Gaza, particularly from the town of Beit Lahia and the Jabalia refugee camp, amid an ongoing military campaign that has lasted 62 days.

According to the Gaza Media Office, Israel has detained over 1,750 Palestinians from northern Gaza since October 5.

Israel claims its extensive ground operation in northern Gaza, launched on October 5, aims to prevent the Hamas resistance group from reorganizing. However, Palestinians allege that Israel intends to occupy the region and forcibly expel its residents.

Since the onset of these actions, no humanitarian aid—including food, medicine, and fuel—has been permitted into the area, which has left the majority of the local population, currently estimated to be 80,000, on the brink of famine.

Local health authorities report that more than 3,500 individuals have been declared dead or missing as a result of the ongoing violence.

This military offensive represents the latest chapter in Israel’s prolonged campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in over 44,500 fatalities, primarily among women and children, since October 7, 2023.

Last month, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the situation in Gaza.

Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) due to its actions in the region.
